OLLI Class 2 Question Omega 6s

The above link comes from Dr. Andrew Weil about the importance of balancing Omega3s and 6s. Omega 6s have an important role in the body, but they also imcrease inflammation. Omega 3s reduce the inflammation. At one time, we had a pretty balanced diet of these two Omegas, but now with processed foods and fast foods, we are getting way too much of the Omega 6s.

How often do you eat hamburgers? Are they fresh or fast food hamburgers? Is the hamburger organic?

Dr. Weil has a link to an anti-inflammatory diet in the website above. Variety is important. 3/4 of the calories on your plate coming from foods high in fiber. And integrate foods high in Omega 3s.

I NEVER eat fast food hamburgers. We use either 93 or 96% fat free beef, not organic. Eat them on whole wheat buns.

I didn’t think you did, but in case someone else was reading this I wanted to mention that. You may want to consider grass fed organic beef as the next step from what you are doing. I know ranchers who wouldn’t eat their own beef or serve it to their families, but inject their cattle with hormones and such because they need to stay profitable…
