When Mary first walked in the door of Mind to Motion nearly a year ago, her 60th birthday was fast approaching and she was in no mood to celebrate. “My list of health problems just keeps getting longer,” she said. “Something needs to change and I’m determined to make it happen. I hope you can help me.”
Mary started out by participating in Pilates mat classes twice a week. Thrilled with the changes she began to see, she soon added private sessions on the Pilates equipment to her schedule, causing her progress to skyrocket.
“Doing Pilates is not a choice for me,” says Mary. “It is absolutely essential to my life. It has made all the difference in my overall health and attitude.”
As she nears her one-year mark with Mind to Motion, Mary has seen positive changes woven throughout her life. Co-workers and neighbors comment, “Wow, you look great! What have you been doing?”
One of the most remarkable improvements Mary has noticed is a huge decrease in her asthma symptoms. “My breathing has improved dramatically,” she says. “I didn’t even realize I was hunching over to compensate for my respiratory problems. By doing that, I was only making things worse!” Thanks to a focus on Pilates exercises that stretch her chest muscles and strengthen her back, this 5’ 3” lady is now “standing tall.”
Mary has also toned and firmed her body, which she especially notices in her abdominals and gluteal area. Her steady progress from the Pilates fundamentals to advanced exercises has given her a profound sense of accomplishment. “People are noticing not only my changing body and posture, but my positive outlook on life,” she says. “I now carry a feeling that good things are about to happen.”
Mary’s newfound confidence spurred her to contact a brother she hadn’t seen or spoken to in many years. She recently returned from a trip to Florida to reunite with him. “Having my brother back in my life makes things even better,” she says.
Thanks to Pilates, Mary recently celebrated her 60th birthday with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. “I look in the mirror and I like who I see.”
